Layer: Sage Grouse Habitat (ID: 0)

Name: Sage Grouse Habitat

Display Field: GIS_Acres

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: The following datasets were used in the creation of this feature class: ARMP/ARMPA Greater Sage-Grouse Habitat Management Areas, Sagebrush Focal Areas (SFA), Bi-State Greater Sage-Grouse Habitat, Priority Areas for Conservation (PAC), and USFWS Current Range. All feature classes were projected to the NAD_1983_Albers coordinate system. ARMP/ARMPA GRSG Habitat Management Areas: A selection removing the UMRBNM EIS was applied to the ARMP/ARMPA GRSG Habitat data. This new dataset was then unioned to the SFA data layer. The attribute selection: FID_Final_SFA_July_2015 = -1 was applied to identify all of the HMAs that are located within the SFA boundaries. The selected records were updated with the suffix ‘- SFA’ (i.e. PHMA to PHMA - SFA) in the Hab_Type field. Two fields (Source and Habitat_Type) were added to the attribute table and populated with data source and habitat type for future analysis. This feature class was then dissolved to the Habitat_Type and Source fields resulting in a feature class containing eight features - one for each habitat type (PHMA, PHMA-SFA, GHMA, IHMA, RHMA, LCHMA, OHMA, and Anthro Mtn). SFA: The Sagebrush Focal Areas (SFA) feature class was dissolved down to one record. An additional field was added to the attribute table and populated with the data's source to be used in future analysis. This dataset was was unioned with the ARMP/ARMPA GRSG Habitat data.GRSG Bi-State: This dataset was clipped to BLM lands in NV and subset to the two habitat types: "Bi-State Greater Sage-Grouse Habitat" and "Bi-State Greater Sage-Grouse Connective Areas". Two additional fields (Source and Habitat_Type) were added to the attribute table and populated with data source and habitat types for future analysis. GRSG PAC: The ARMP/ARMPA/SFA and Bi-State data were erased from the USFWS GRSG PAC data, creating polygons representing areas of GRSG PAC locations that do not lie within the ARMP/ARMPA/SFA or Bi-State boundaries. Two fields (Source and Habitat_Type) were added to the attribute table and populated with data source and habitat type for future analysis. This feature class was then dissolved to the Habitat_Type and Source fields, resulting in a feature class containing one feature.GRSG Current Range: The ARMP/ARMPA/SFA, Bi-State, and PAC data were erased from the USFWS GRSG Current Range data, creating polygons representing areas of GRSG Current Range that do not lie within the ARMP/ARMPA/SFA, Bi-State, or PAC boundaries. Two fields (Source and Habitat_Type) were added to the attribute table and populated with data source and habitat type for future analysis. This feature class was then dissolved to the Habitat_Type and Source fields, resulting in a feature class containing one feature. All dissolved feature classes were then merged to create a comprehensive dataset that represents all five categories of data.

Copyright Text: ARMP/ARMPA GRSG Habitat Management Areas: Compiled by the BLM’s Wildlife Habitat Spatial Analysis Lab. Data created and submitted to the NOC by each individual EIS, February - March 2016. SFA: Created by the USFWS in October 2014. Modified by the BLM in January and June 2015. GRSG Bi-State: This feature class was obtained from the NV State GIS Specialist affiliated with the Bi-State Plan. GRSG PAC: Complied by USFWS, original data created and submitted by individual states for the 2013 COT Report. In 2015, USFWS dissolved PACs across state boundaries and split by USFWS Populations. GRSG Current Range: Complied by USFWS in 2015, using data from Schroeder et al 2004 and GRSG PACs for 2013 COT Report, with additional input from individual states.
